Larson Wrangler Scholarship Endowment Fund
What would the Medora Musical be without the pageantry of the flags being presented by cowboys on horseback? Thanks to a unique gift by Madrienne and Dr. Richard Larson, the tradition will long endure. The Larsons established the Larson Wrangler Scholarship Endowment Fund in 2000 from which earnings are used to support a trail rider in the Medora Musical as a summer intern. Madrienne said there are several reasons she wanted to begin this fund. First was to further honor her father, Harry V. Johnston, and his ranching days in the badlands. She also said she “loves the Old West, especially Medora. And I have always admired what Harold Schafer has done in Medora for so many people.” She felt North Dakota was very good to her business and Medora was the right place to “give back to the state.”
Foundation president Randy Hatzenbuhler said, “We are honored by this gift and feel it is important because it will fulfill our mission to preserve the western heritage for which Medora is known.”
The 2007 recipient of this internship was Kristi Boen from Frazee, MN.
